They decided to make FileZilla an open-source project because many FTP clients were already available, and they didn't think that they would sell a single copy if they made FileZilla commercial. īefore they started to write the code, they discussed under which license they should release it. History įileZilla was started as a computer science class project in the second week of January 2001 by Tim Kosse and two classmates. Both server and client support FTP and FTPS (FTP over SSL/TLS), while the client can in addition connect to SFTP servers.įileZilla's source code is hosted on SourceForge and the project was featured as Project of the Month in November 2003. Clients are available for Windows, Linux, and macOS. org /filezilla /FileZilla3 /įileZilla is a free and open-source, cross-platform FTP application, consisting of FileZilla Client and FileZilla Server. I also love that the search file on Filezilla is one thousand thousand times faster. This program must be installed on any machine (and I have 3). I could truly remove files and directories permanently with Filezilla. I could not even remove the files by being banned. The second wonderful thing about Filezilla and the deletion of files is that: I recently was banned from accessing my OneDrive, which lets you to maintain a local cloud file shortcut. I may really erase it from the local file page of the window from the whole device. On my Mac, I can actually delete the file and then go to the garbage basket, without having to send it to the trash bin.

I also want to be able to delete files that I wouldn't be able to delete permanently through Filezilla.

I like to use it not only to handle FTP transactions but I can really see hidden files on my machines without going to my settings or input a certain key combination. I found more practical usages than the company could realize for this software. It has been intended to be used to move files via FTP or SFTP, for example, for web hosting.

Filezilla's ability to be a full-featured file management program appeals to me.
